Objective:  Studying the factors related to the defaults of women at reproductive age from having tetanus toxoid vaccination

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Baghdad Al-Karkh district in four primary health care centers for a period of four months from February 2014 to the end of May 2014. A sample of 350 women of reproductive age (15-49) years who were attended the selected primary health care centers were included in this study. The data were collected by exist interview with each woman, using special questionnaire form.

Results: Three hundred fifty women of reproductive age (15-49) years with a mean age of 29.5 ±7.7 years were studied. (78.3%) were married or ever married and (21.7%) were not married.  (73.43%) had received at least one dose tetanus toxoid vaccine during their reproductive life. Results showed that main factors made the women defaulted from tetanus toxoid vaccine during their reproductive life were not married group were (do not know vaccine importance and do not know vaccine timing) (28.9%). While, busy at home/work was the main factor reported by the married or ever married group (30.3%). (82.7%) of women who employed had received tetanus toxoid vaccine. The results revealed that there was a highly significant association between educational level and vaccination status of the women (60.5%) of not married women not received tetanus toxoid vaccine during their reproductive age.

Conclusions: Almost a quarter of studied women were not vaccinated with tetanus toxoid vaccine during their reproductive life. The most frequent factors related to the defaulters of women from completion of five injections of tetanus toxoid vaccination given by the studied women were busy at home/work.
